and welcome, sweet season of love! bring us flowers and shower us in kisses!
in honor of my favorite holiday, i gift you with a poem of deep affection and utter devotion. (this makes you all my valentines, right?)
love is often crucified in this cruel world diseased by the fundamentals of individualism. i believe in the importance of love— familial, romantic, platonic. love births empathy, compassion, community.
like the great John Keating once said: “…medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
hug and kiss your loved ones, offer a smile to a stranger, tell someone you love them, write them a poem.
(photo: on a neutral, yellowish background walks a cherub cheerfully trotting along with their left leg kicked ahead of them, anticipating their next step. the cherub is seen holding a rose larger than the winged child over their left shoulder. the petals a deep, blood red. the stem and leaves evergreen. a heart the color of the rose petals sits behind the cherub from the bottom of their torso to their rosy cheeks. their wings tinted blue and pink like the heavenly skies.)
beautiful and warm. i think perfectly encapsulates the small, everyday tender moments and feelings between people which are the most intimate
